A lot of women do suffer from cramping during pregnancy, especially at night. The following paragraphs will give some information about this topic.
During pregnancy, a lot of women have cramps, especially in the calves, the feet and the heels. Some women also experience cramps in the uterus.
Cramping during pregnancy results from the following: the growing child is constantly taking important minerals from the mother's metabolism. Therefore, the mother-to-be needs a higher amount of these minerals. If they cannot be supplied, cramps are the result.
What can be done against cramping during pregnancy?
A deficiency of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D can be compensated by a nutrition which is rich in calcium and magnesium, e.g. nuts, dairy products, bananas and green vegetables. It is also recommended that the woman drinks mineral water which is rich in magnesium. If necessary, the gynaecologist already prescribes appropriate tablets at the beginning of the pregnancy to prevent a lack of important minerals.
If a pregnant woman suffers from cramps in the heels during pregnancy, she should press her feet against the foot of her bed. If the bed does not have a foot, then she has to get up and only stand on the leg in which she has got the cramp.
Furthermore, women who suffer from cramping during pregnancy should always try to put up their legs when lying in bed or sitting in a chair. Massage treatments and alternating hot and cold showers can also be very helpful. It is also recommended that the woman who suffering from cramping during pregnancy should walk around a lot to avoid painful cramps.
