The following paragraphs might supply you with some useful information, if you are interested in the topic "can you get a postive pregnancy test and not be pregnant".

The question "can you get a postive pregnancy test and not be pregnant" can be clearly answered with "yes".

First of all, a pregnancy test should be done if a woman experiences one of the following pregnancy symptoms: non-appearance of the monthly period, nausea, sore and growing breasts, tiredness, enormous appetite and mood swings.

Pregnancy tests are supposed to detect the existence of beta HGC (beta human chorionic gonadotrophin) either in the blood or the urine. Beta human chorionic gonadotrophin is responsible for the continuing production of oestrogens and gestagens in the ovary.

This hormone can already be detected in early pregnancy, i.e. six to eight days after the egg cell has been fertilized, which is only 2 days after its embedding into the uterus. But in order to obtain a very reliable result, women who suspect that they are pregnant, should wait until the second day after the non-appearance of the period before they make a pregnancy test.

Although the test provided a positive result, it can happen that the woman is not pregnant (anymore). This is due to the fact that an egg cell has often been fertilized and embedded, but that the progeny stops developing appropriately and is pushed off. In most cases, the woman does not even realise that she is pregnant, sometimes the period is only a bit delayed.

The circumstance of having a positive result from a pregnancy test and not being pregnant, can be very depressing for women who like to have a child. Therefore, in these cases, pregnancy tests should only be made after the non-appearance of the period (or even later).
