If you are interested in the topic "false pregnancy test", there might be some useful information for you in the following paragraphs.

Pregnancy tests are supposed to detect beta HGC (beta human chorionic gonadotrophin), a hormone which is responsible for the production of oestrogens and gestagens in the ovary. Normally, home pregnancy tests are so sensitive that the existence of this hormone can already be detected 6-8 days after the fertilization of the egg cell, i.e. only 2 days after its embedding into the uterus.

However, a "false pregnancy test", i.e. a pregnancy test with a false test result might also occur due to one of the following reasons.

A negative test result (although the woman is pregnant) might occur because the level of beta HGC is still too low to be detected in the urine. A negative result can also occur if the test's best-before date has already expired.

Therefore, if a woman is still suspicious that she might be pregnant even after a negative test result, she should wait a couple of days and then make another pregnancy test. Or she should contact her gynaecologist to make an appointment for an ultrasound.

It might also happen that a woman is not pregnant (anymore), even after having had a positive test result. The reason for that is that often although the egg cell has been fertilized and embedded in the uterus, the progeny has stopped developing appropriately and is pushed off which results in a bleeding similar to the period.

The fact of having a positive pregnancy test result and not being pregnant can of course be very depressing. Therefore, it is recommended for women who tried to get pregnant for a while to not make a pregnancy test until the non-appearance of the period (or even later).
