Today's urine pregnancy tests are so exact that they can already detect the pregnancy hormone shortly before the next period is expected. But to be more certain and to get a more reliable test result, women should make a pregnancy test on the second day after the non-appearance of the expected period. A more accurate result can be obtained from blood tests, as the beta human chorionic gonadotrophin can be detected earlier in blood than in urine. In blood tests, very reliable results can already be obtained two days before the expected period.
