If you are interested in the topic "fertility by age", you will find some useful information in the following paragraphs.

With increasing age, the probability of getting pregnant decreases, i.e. a decreasing fertility by age can be observed. Whereas a young, healthy woman who is 20 years old, generally only needs to wait 2 1/2 months until she successfully conceives, women at the age of 40 approximately have to wait 2 years.

A third of the women between 32 and 37 wait more than a year, for the 38 to 42-year-old women, more than 70 per cent have to wait that amount of time.

A decreasing fertility by age can also be observed in men. In comparison to an 18-year-old, the sperm quantity of a 45-year-old is reduced about a third, and the number of viable sperms about 50%.

Getting pregnant is also a question of timing. Only a few days of a month (approx. 6), a woman has got her fertile days. Only if the couple has sexual intercourse during these days, the woman can get pregnant. The highest probability for a conception is during the ovulation and in the following 18 hours. The probability of getting pregnant in this period of time is three times higher than during the other five fertile days.

A common reason for not getting pregnant is the simple reason that a lot of couples do not have sexual intercourse at the right point of time.

When having daily sex, the quantity and quality of sperms is not the best. Scientific researches have shown after how many days the sperms have the highest fertility. Mostly, an abstinence of 2 to 10 days is indicated. Then, the quality of sperms decreases again. Therefore, it makes sense to be a bit abstinent before the fertile days and to have sexual intercourse during several of the fertile days.

Apart from the fertility by age factor, stress, nicotine, alcohol and illnesses also harm the fertility of men and women.
