If a new member of family comes into this world, the parents often would like to have a newborn family portrait which can be either a photograph of the newborn surrounded by its family or a painting.
In the first case, a newborn family portrait mostly consists of a photograph taken by a professional photographer where the newborn is either surrounded only by its brothers and sisters, or by its parents as well as the brothers and sisters, or the whole family including grandparents, uncles and aunts etc. Sometimes, a newborn family portrait with the whole family is realised on a special occasion, e.g. the christening of the newborn.
No matter whether the photograph is only realised with parts of or the whole family, when the appointment with the photographer is made, the parents should mention what type of photograph they wish to be taken (i.e. black and white/colour, indoor/outdoor), so that the photographer can make some suggestions as far as the clothes, the hair style and the make-up of the persons in the photograph to be taken is concerned, to avoid unpleasant surprises when the family finally comes together to get the photograph taken.
If the parents wish to have a painted newborn family portrait, they should also make an appointment with the artists they have chosen and discuss the type of painting they wish to have. Depending on their personal taste and the amount of money they want to spend, they have several options, e.g. an oil painting, a charcoal drawing etc. In most cases, the artist needs a good photograph of the persons whom he is supposed to paint or draw. Therefore, when having the appointment, the parents should supply him with a good, typical photograph so that he has a good template for the painting.
